A Comparison of Philippine Education and Japanese Education フィリピン教育と日本教育の比較

二つの国で学校に行った経験があるので、（フィリピンでの教育は現在進行中です）それについての私の考えを共有したいと思います。
Since I have experienced going to school in both countries (my education is still ongoing), I would like to share my thoughts about it with you.
私の日本の高校は皇族との繋がりが深かったため、そこで通っていたとき、なんとなく私の学校は保守的だと感じました。悪く言えば右翼的な感じもしました。
My high school in Japan was deeply tied with the imperial family, so when there, I was studying there, I kind of felt like my school was too conservative and right-leaning in a negative way.

聞いたところによりますと、私の高校は「渋谷の北朝鮮」なんて呼ばれていたそうです。それは卒業してから２ｃｈで知ったことですが。
According to hearsay, my high school was called the "North Korea in Shibuya", which I came to know on the Internet after graduating.

グループ活動もあまりなく、先生の話をひたすら生徒が聞いているという授業で、堅い雰囲気で行われていたのを覚えています。
I remember how rigid class was; students were just listening to the teacher there were almost no group activities.

きっとこれが日本の典型的な授業なのでしょう。
I guess this is a very typical class in Japan.

フィリピンでは、生徒皆が授業に参加することをは必須で、自分の意見を発言しなければなりません。もし生徒が答えられない場合は、フィリピンの先生は考える時間を与えるか、ほかの質問をします。
In the Philippines, all students are required to participate in a class and they are asked to say their own opinions during class. If a student cannot answer, the teacher gives them to think or asks a different question.

一方で、日本は、もし生徒が答えられない場合は、日本の先生は代わりにほかの生徒をあてます。フィリピンの先生は日本の先生より忍耐強いように思われます。
While in Japan, if a student cannot answer, the teacher asks others instead. Considering the difference, Filipino teachers seem more patient than Japanese ones.

また悪いのが、日本の先生はなぜ生徒がそのような答えに至ったのかを聞きません。
To make things worse, in Japan, the teacher doesn't even ask why a student answered the way they did.

この習慣は日本の生徒の論理的思考の過程の発達を妨げています。
The practice prevents Japanese students from developing a logical thinking process.

私の意見として、授業は生徒たちが輝ける、そして自分たちの考えや意見を共有する場であるべきだと考えています。それが生徒たちを個性的にさせると思います。
In my opinion, a class should be where students can shine and share their thoughts and opinions with one another, which sets them apart.

しかしながら、悲しいことに、日本の社会では意見を積極的に述べたり、印象を残そうとする人は煙たがれることがあります。
However, sadly enough, in Japanese society, people who are opinionated or try to leave a mark tend to be ostracized most of the time.

それはよく「出る杭は打たれる」と諺でいいますね。
It can be described with the English proverb, "the nail that sticks out will be pounded down".

フィリピンでも似たような言われがあり、「蟹メンタル」と言われます。
There is a similar Filipino saying called "crab mentality", a way of thinking where a person constantly tries to pull others down.

たとえば、私が課題をやってきたただ一人とすると、ほかのクラスメイトは「先生に課題のこと言わないでね」と私に言います。実際これは私に起こったことですが・・・
For example, supposed I am the only one who did a required assignment. And my classmates tell me that, "don't tell our professor about the assignment". It actually happened to me.

きっとこれは島国に住んでいる人々の特徴といえると思います。
I guess this is a common trait of among islanders.
